“Blessed are they whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the law of the
Lord. Blessed are they who keep His statutes and seek Him with all their heart,”
Psalm 119:1-2.
We all want to have a ‘happy’ day. So you can start your day one of two ways. 1)
This is going to be an awesome day! 2) You’re tired, grumpy and unhappy about whatever
but the point is what are you going to do about it?
Where do you find happiness?
“Blessed are they whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the law of the
Lord. Blessed are they who keep His statutes and seek Him with all their heart,”
Psalm 119:1-2.
The word translated ‘blessed’ in the Psalm here can mean the happiest of happy, fortunate,
to be envied (Amplified Bible). To be blessed in this case is not some supernatural
miracle from God. God isn’t only concerned about doing some amazing stuff in your
life. God wants us to be happy! How cool is that? The Creator of the universe
is concerned about your general happiness. In Psalm 119 He shows us how we can be
happy.
I don’t believe any of us can sustain a ‘blameless’ life. That’s where Jesus comes in. In His death on the cross He took the blame for us, and by following His ways, and living His way, our way is blameless in Him. What are you walking your day out to? What I mean is what directs and guides your day and the way you go about your day? The Bible isn’t a rule book. It is a spiritual book. When you allow the Spirit of God to guide, direct and lead your spirit, following the example and teachings of Jesus Christ, you walk according to His way. The result is blessing – happiness, a happiness that shows the joy of the Lord in your life no matter what you are doing or what situation you might be in. The apostle Paul said the Christian life is not a matter of the letter of the law (rules), but the spirit of the law (2 Cor. 3:6). Let the Spirit of God work the way of the Lord in your life today and every day.
You got to want it. The Psalmist tells us that we are blessed when we keep or guard God’s Word and seek, crave and desire God with all our heart. Where is your focus today. You can seek God in all things. Look for God’s way in your study, friendships, family, work, play and everything you do, anything that the world throws at you today. It’s not so much ‘What would Jesus do?’ but rather, “How and why does God want me go about such and such a thing?” Let the Spirit of God guide you today. Obedience to God – to His Word, isn’t about rules, it’s about life. A happiest of happy life, a blessed life, a life to envied, is about following Jesus’ example and allowing His leadership and Lordship to show us the way to live. Make a choice today in light of the Psalm and take some responsibility for your happiness then go and be happy.
